What is Exploring?

Exploring is a career education program for young men and women who are at least fourteen years of age, have completed 8th grade, and have not yet reached their 21st birthday. Police Officers (both active and retired) serve as Explorer Advisors and act as role models for the youth in the program. Color, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, economic status and citizenship are not criteria for participation.

Exploring is all about helping young adults make a more informed decision about a future career in law enforcement. This program will give them an insight to determine if a law enforcement career is the right fit for them. Those who find that law enforcement is not for them will still benefit greatly from the program by learning leadership skills, a great sense of discipline and community involvement.

Exploring exists to accomplish a major goal: to provide the structure and resources needed for the youth of Nassau County to learn about law enforcement and its career opportunities, to make ethical choices and to achieve their full potential as individuals.

Exploring’s purpose is to provide experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
